Tips for Successful Newborn Photography
A Full Belly Means a Happy Baby!
Always remember to feed the baby either right before arriving at the studio or make arrangements with the photographer to arrive early and feed the baby there. Babies with a full belly will sleep and make it easier to achieve those desired photos. We make it convenient for the mother to feed her baby at the studio. There are comfortable couches and even privacy available to feed your baby.
Keep the Baby Awake Prior to Arriving at the Studio!
Try to keep the baby awake for one or two hours prior to your photo session. A bath prior to arriving is a good way to keep a newborn awake. Some other activities to try are to play with him or her, to talk, sing, and play with toys.
Schedule Photo Session at the Right Time of Day!
Most babies sleep deeper earlier in the morning so this is a good time to schedule your photography session. Afternoon, tends to be less successful as babies are fussier.
Schedule Your Photo Session Soon After They are Born!
It is much easier to photograph newborns the first two weeks of life. During the first two weeks, they sleep more soundly and it is much easier to pose them. The older the baby is the longer you need to keep your baby awake prior to the session to still attain the newborn poses.
Expect a Newborn Session to Take Time!
Newborn session can be quite length as getting them comfortable and asleep can take time. You might have to take time to feed and change them. Plan accordingly and relax as babies can be perceptive of your mood and be anxious. This will go a long way to obtaining the best shots.
At our studio, we try to make our babies as comfortable as possible. We keep the babies warm by warming the blankets and the room. We use relaxing sounds to help the babies sleep. In addition, to blankets and outfits, we have a wide variety of baskets and other props for cute set ups. We would love to create these wonderful memories for you and your family to cherish.
